Laure Schnapper speaks about the carrier of Emile Waldteufel, composer who comes from a lineage of musicians.
We will hear three main works of this composer, The Skaters Waltz, a polka performed by the Orchestra Eugénie called Les sauterelles, and the waltz Love and Spring arranged by Jean-François Zigel and performed by the Trio du Musée d’Orsay.
Laure Schnapper is a musicologist and teacher at the EHESS. She is also president of the European Institute for Jewish Music.
After the publication of her PhD, she wrote several articles on the music in France in the 19th century, and a book, Henri Herz, the piano magnate. Musical life in France in the 19th century, which received the prize “Prix des Muses”. She also wrote about the degenerated music, and the composer Joseph Kosma.
She recently published articles about the composer Fernand Halphen (1872-1917), music leader during the Great War, and organized a concert of his works in the Museum of Art and History of Judaism in Paris.
