Nichts pr\u00e4destinierte diesen Sohn einer wohlhabenden israelitischen Pariser Familie dazu, zweieinhalb Jahre lang das offizielle Orchester der Nordarmee zu dirigieren; die Melodien und Kammermusik, die er komponierte, spiegeln die elegante Atmosph\u00e4re der Salons der Dritten Republik wider, dem goldenen Zeitalter der franz\u00f6sischen Melodie.<\/p>\n<p>Der umfassende Archivfonds, welches er zusammengetragen hatte, erm\u00f6glichte es, die Karriere eines franz\u00f6sischen Komponisten in einer von der Wagner-Mode und der Dreyfus-Aff\u00e4re beherrschten Zeit, genaustens nachzuzeichnen. Fernand Halphen stand G. Faur\u00e9 nahe und war Student am Conservatoire, wo er mit R. Hahn, H. Br\u00fcssler, A. Cortot, Ch. Koechlin und E. Risler verkehrte und schlie\u00dflich mit dem 2. Prix de Rome ausgezeichnet wurde.
