Die Klezmer-Musik ist ein einzigartiges Beispiel, eines typisch j\u00fcdischen Instrumentalrepertoires und Auff\u00fchrungsstils. Die Klezmer tauchte zuerst bei j\u00fcdischen Hochzeiten auf; spezifische Melodien begleiteten bestimmte Rituale und Prozessionen, \u201eTischmusik\u201c zum Zuh\u00f6ren und Tanzmusik. Das Buch zieht eine Parallele zwischen der Klezmer und dem j\u00fcdischen Tanz, deren beider Wurzeln sowohl im synagogale Gebet als auch in der jiddischen Sprache liegen.<\/p>\n<p>Die erste H\u00e4lfte des Buches, erz\u00e4hlt vom dem Aufstieg der Gilde der j\u00fcdischen Musiker im Prag des 16. Jahrhunderts, ebenso wie vom ihrem Fortbestand und der Ver\u00e4nderungen, welche sie erst in Polen und Litauen und sp\u00e4ter auch im Russischen Reich des 19. Jahrhunderts erfuhr.<\/p>\n<p>Die zweite H\u00e4lfte ist dem Prozessionsrepertoire und den j\u00fcdischen T\u00e4nzen gewidmet. Beide Musikarten entwickelten sich \u00fcber die Jahrhunderte hinweg und verbanden die aschkenasische liturgische Musik, die osteurop\u00e4ische Barockmusik und die Musik des Osmanischen Reichs.<\/p>\n<p>Walter Zev Feldman st\u00fctzt sich auf bedeutende schriftliche Quellen, welche zwischen dem 16. und dem 20. Jahrhunderts, haupts\u00e4chlich auf Russisch, Jiddisch, Hebr\u00e4isch und Rum\u00e4nisch entstanden sind. Ebenso st\u00fctzt er sich auf Sammlungen, welche w\u00e4hrend der zaristischen und sowjetischen Periode gesammelt und niedergeschrieben wurden, sowie auf seltene Manuskripte der Kantoren- und Klezmer-Musik aus dem Zeitraum zwischen dem sp\u00e4ten 18. und dem fr\u00fchen 20. Jahrhundert. Schlie\u00dflich hat er auch \u00fcber 30 Jahre hinweg, die bekanntesten europ\u00e4ischen Klezmer-Musiker in den Vereinigten Staaten, in Europa und in Israel interviewt.<\/p>\n<p>Walter Zev Feldman ist Forscher der j\u00fcdischen und der osmanischen Musik und einer der Wegbereiter der Renaissance der Klezmer in den Vereinigten Staaten der 1970er Jahre.
