{"id":49766,"date":"2018-04-25T16:46:01","date_gmt":"2018-04-25T14:46:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.iemj.org\/produit\/halphen-romance-for-cello-and-piano-in-e-major-printed-score\/"},"modified":"2025-01-21T10:01:58","modified_gmt":"2025-01-21T09:01:58","slug":"halphen-romance-for-cello-and-piano-in-e-major-printed-score","status":"publish","type":"product","link":"https:\/\/www.iemj.org\/de\/produit\/halphen-romance-for-cello-and-piano-in-e-major-printed-score\/","title":{"rendered":"Halphen &#8211; Romance for cello and piano, in E major"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Born into an important family of merchants, bankers and patrons of the arts, Fernand Halphen learned violin under the tutelage of Joseph Marsick and composition from Gabriel Faur\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>In 1888, he entered the Conservatory and studied with Jules Massenet alongside Florent Schmitt, Henri B\u00fcsser, Max d\u2019Olonne, Georges Enesco and Reynaldo Hahn. He was awarded the second prix de Rome in 1896.<\/p>\n<p>In his short lifetime, Halphen composed nearly 100 melodies, over 30 pieces for piano, duets (particularly for violin and piano), a composition for string trio and one for piano trio, orchestral suites, a symphony in C minor dedicated to Faur\u00e9 (1898) and Le Cor Fleuri, a lyric opera in one act unveiled at the Op\u00e9ra-Comique theater on 10 May 1904.2 He also wrote two psalms and a synagogal hymn as well as two instrumental pieces which draw on traditional Hebrew cantilation (Andante religioso and Pri\u00e8re).
