There will be hands-on workshops\, lectures\, city tours\, concerts and large-scale outdoor events\, but concentrated in two days instead of spread out over four or five. For newcomers to Yiddish Summer Weimar as well as friends from past years\, the Festival Weekend is the place to meet or re-connect with other festival visitors and to celebrate being together in a spirit of music and hope for the future.

SUMMARY:THE “NEW JEWISH SCHOOL OF SAINT-PETERSBURG”
DESCRIPTION:As part of the 17th Festival of Jewish Cultures\nORGANIZED BY THE EUROPEAN INSTITUTE OF JEWISH MUSIC\,\nTHE NATIONAL ARCHIVES AND THE FSJU\nSarah Iancu\, cello \nDavid Bismuth\, piano \n\nIn 2016\, Sarah Iancu\, principal cellist of the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse and David Bismuth\, virtuoso pianist\, presented their first opus Hebrew Melodies\, volume 1 at the National Archives as part of the Festival of Jewish Cultures. \nSix years later\, the Festival welcomes them back with great pleasure to present their second opus\, produced by the European Institute of Jewish Music and devoted in large part to composers from the « New Jewish School of Saint-Petersburg ». \nSarah Iancu and David Bismuth invite you to discover composers such as Joel Engel\, Alexander Krein\, Lazare Saminski\, Joachim Stoutchevski\, Jacob Weinberg\, Leo Zeitlin\, who\, under the influence of the Russian folk movement at the turn of the 20th century\, began collecting\, recording and transcribing Yiddish melodies as well as liturgical chants which served as a basis for their compositions\, in order to undertake the creation of a national Jewish music \nEastern Europe was at the time a place of artistic experimentation\, expressed in particular through Yiddish literature and theatre\, the latter making extensive use of songs that quickly became part of the popular repertoire. \nThese Yiddish songs\, imported to the United States\, led to the creation in 1925 of the song My Yiddish Momme by Jack Yellen\, which became a worldwide hit. \nThese songs\, meditations\, dances\, prayers and psalmodies resonate with a universal beauty and are an inexhaustible source of inspiration for us. \nFee: 12 € \nReservation online

SUMMARY:International conference – From the Music of the Portuguese synagogue in the 19th to the Rolf Lieberman Era in the 20th century
DESCRIPTION:International conference at the University of Music Hamburg 1. – 3. March 2022\nThe presence of Jewish Culture in Europe is going back to the times of the Roman Empire. In 2021 Germany has celebrated 1700 years of Jewish life and culture. The city of Hamburg decided in 2020 to rebuild the large synagogue on Bornplatz\, which had been destroyed in 1938 during the Reichskristallnacht. SUMMARY:Ta’am
DESCRIPTION:Choreography: Jessica Bonamy\nMusic and Oud: Abderraouf Ouertani\nDance and Song : Amalia Alba\, Jessica Bonamy\nSet design: Antonin Heck \nA creation by the Safra Company\, in co-production with the mahJ \nIn her piece Ta’am\, choreographer Jessica Bonamy starts with te’amim\, the vocalization signs of Hebrew liturgical texts. \nShe echoes these sung tropes with the corresponding hand signs. If they allow the transmission of the verb – or the biblical verse -\, it is through their choreography that the piece brings out its musicality. \nDanced in space\, they invite us to taste\, through the body and the voice\, what comes to life in speech. \nOnline ticketing : \nhttps://mahj.tickeasy.com/fr-FR/produits?famille=2020640759730400002
