CD AVAILABLE on the EIJM’S ONLINE SHOP

This compilation, supported by The Salonika and Greece Jewry Heritage Center, has been recorded under the artistic direction of the famous Israeli searcher and ethnomusicologist Susana Weich-Shahak, who collected field recordings from Sephardi singers all over the world (Israel, but also Peru, Spain or Argentina) to pay tribute to the rich musical tradition of the Sephardim from Tetuan, spiritual center of Judaism in the north of Morocco.

The songs are performed by the talented Orit Perlman, accompanied by two musicians Zeev Yaniv and Yarden Erez (the latter did also the arrangements) who play on traditional instruments (ud, darbouka...) and also the accordion, the guitar and the violin.

We can hear the three traditional musical genres that we find in the Judeo-Spanish repertoire, romances, coplas and cantigas, as well as songs written in the beginning of the XXth century.
