Mémoire et Cinéma

Isabelle Durin, violin and Michaël Ertzscheid, piano

The idea of the disc Mémoire et cinéma, published by Paraty (Harmonia Mundi), is to gather in the form of an anthology a selection of Jewish themed film music, anchored in the collective memory.

To do this, Isabelle Durin and Michaël Ertzcheid arranged scores of well known films such as Schindler’s List, Life is Beautiful, Fiddler on the roof, Yentl, Exodus, Yiddishe Mame, Yidl mitn Fidl, The Passerby, The roundup, The Life Before Us, The diary of Anne Frank, Defiance

The violin is here the instrument of singing (in Hebrew: Kle-zemer), often present in many Jewish themed films. The piano replies and settles the scene. The arrangements are sober and highlight the beauty of the themes and the inspiration of the composers.

A remarkable record that plunges us into the musical atmosphere of Jewish treasures of the 7th art!
