Klezmer Attitude: the hora

A radio broadcast of Radio Judaica Lyon hosted by Edmond Ghrenassia

KLEZMER ATTITUDE - MONDAY 30th JULY 2007, RADIO JUDAICA LYON (RJL) (94.5)

This week, Edmond Ghrenassia presents a program dedicated to the hora. The hora is a classical musical motif in klezmer music. It is a slow 3 step dance, with the first and last step enhanced. That three step rhythm brings a swaying feeling. It follows sometimes a doina, and can even come before a faster rhythm, such as the bulgar or the freylech. The klezmer hora or slow hora, must not be mistaken with the Israeli hora which is a fast 2 step dance.
We will hear tunes played by Belf Orchestra, Natfule Brandwein, Andy Statman ...

Formed to be engeneer, and teacher in University, Edmond Ghrenassia hosts since 2005 the show Klezmer Attitude on Radio Judaïca Lyon, program created to favor the diffusion of Jewish music. In 2009, he creates the International Festival of Jewish Music of Lyon which takes place in the Espace Hillel, where he programmed over 50 concerts. Amateur musician, he plays in several klezmer bands since 2003 and recorded several CD’s..
