Description

Born in 1979, François Meïmoun studied at the Conservatory of Paris (CNSMDP) with Michaël Levinas, at the Sorbonne-Paris IV University and at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes where he finished a PhD of musicology on La construction du langage de Pierre Boulez (1942-1948). Since 2017, he teaches music analysis in the CNSMDP and is also director of the collection “Music 20-21st centuries” published by Aedam Musicae Editions.

Winner of several awards for composition (Grand Prix de la musique symphonique, Prix Nadia et Lili Boulanger, Académie des Beaux-Arts), François Meïmoun is the author of approximately 40 instrumental and vocal works, performed in particular by the Ardeo Quartet, the Arditti Quartet, the Tana Quartet, the Voce Quartet, les Percussions de Strasbourg, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Radio France as well as many soloists, including Alain Billard, Élise Chauvin, Marc Coppey, Christophe Desjardins, Chen Halevi, Garth Knox, Marie Kobayashi, Olivier Patey, Hélène Tysman, Marie Vermeulin, Sébastien Vichard and Vanessa Wagner. He is regularly programmed in many festivals such as those of Aix-en-Provence, Chaillol, Musica Strasbourg, ManiFeste, Musiques sur Ciel, Les Musiques de Marseille, Les Musicales de Colmar, Zeitkunst in Berlin and Belo Horizonte in Brazil.

Several of his works are linked to the Jewish tradition from which he comes, such as Tsimtsoum for string quintet (2015), Pérèk chira for string quartet and piano (2015); Hora for two pianos (2017); La danse de David for cello (2019), Terouah – Psaume 150 for organ (2022) … His Kaddish for mezzo-soprano and string quartet (2016) was commissioned by the ULIF-Copernic synagogue (Paris) who performed it as a world premiere on November 13, 2016, as part of a concert dedicated to the memory of all the victims of terrorism.
