Established in 1974 and officially recognized for its public utility in 1978, the French Judaism Foundation has maintained the following objectives since its existence:
With the creation of a program entitled “Musical heritage of French Jews” directed by the ethnomusicologist Hervé Roten in the 2000’s, the French Judaism Foundation developed an operating division in the domain pertaining to Jewish music, which eventually led to the creation of the French Center for Jewish Music in 2006, which turned into the European Institute of Jewish Music in 2012.
