This music declined in Europe at the turn of the 20th century, before being virtually wiped out by the Holocaust. But it survived in the USA, where many Jewish klezmer musicians had settled, fleeing pogroms and poverty. After the war, klezmer music fell out of fashion, but in the 1970s, a few passionate musicians<span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" onclick=\"footnote_moveToReference_120885_1('footnote_plugin_reference_120885_1_2');\" onkeypress=\"footnote_moveToReference_120885_1('footnote_plugin_reference_120885_1_2');\" ><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_120885_1_2\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">[2]<\/sup><\/a><span id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_120885_1_2\" class=\"footnote_tooltip\">These include pioneering clarinetist Giora Feidman, saxophonist Lev Liberman (The Klezmorim), Henry Sapoznik (Kapelye), Andy Statman (Andy Statman Klezmer Orchestra), Zev Feldman, Michael Alpert,&nbsp;&#x2026; <span class=\"footnote_tooltip_continue\"  onclick=\"footnote_moveToReference_120885_1('footnote_plugin_reference_120885_1_2');\">Lire la suite<\/span><\/span><\/span><script type=\"text\/javascript\"> jQuery('#footnote_plugin_tooltip_120885_1_2').tooltip({ tip: '#footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_120885_1_2', tipClass: 'footnote_tooltip', effect: 'fade', predelay: 0, fadeInSpeed: 200, delay: 400, fadeOutSpeed: 200, position: 'top center', relative: true, offset: [-7, 0], });<\/script> contributed to its revival. From the USA, this \u201cnew wave\u201d of klezmer soon reached Europe and Israel. In 1983, clarinettist Nano Peylet and pianist Denis Cuniot founded the first French klezmer music group: the Peylet-Cuniot duo. Since then, the klezmer wave has continued to spread.<\/p>\n<p>This second part of the symposium on \u201cAshkenazi music in France\u201d retraces the evolution and transmission of klezmer music in France from 1983 to the present day, including an overview of current practices.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7
