According to Michel L\u00e9vy, &#8220;the owners of Dounia were French counts who owned property in France (&#8230;). They had a headquarters in Algeria and another in Paris, in the district of Strasbourg Saint-Denis. During the Algerian war, Dounia, like Path\u00e9 or Teppaz, sold many records in Algeria. The business stopped when Algeria created its own currency, and when the pieds-noirs left&#8230; There was a kind of lead weight on trade between Algeria and France. Line Monty, for example, sang a lot at private parties. For all these artists, galas didn&#8217;t really exist, even if there were still a few oriental cabarets in Saint-Michel or on the Faubourg Montmartre. (&#8230;) When I bought Dounia, I realised that the artists were paid in goods, that is to say in records or cassettes&#8230; It was written in black and white on <img decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-81351 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.iemj.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Reinette-lOranaise-285x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"263\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.iemj.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Reinette-lOranaise-285x300.jpg 285w, https:\/\/www.iemj.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Reinette-lOranaise.jpg 333w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/>the contracts. This creative vein came to an end in the early 1970s, as the Dounia record company was hardly making any new productions, and just reissued, in vinyl or cassette, its catalogue of oriental music, which had then covered some fifteen years.<\/p>\n<p>At the beginning of the 1980s, Michel L\u00e9vy, hired by El Kahlaoui Tounsi as a press attach\u00e9, relaunched the Dounia catalogue, which he bought when the latter retired in the 1990s.&nbsp; Shortly afterwards, Michel L\u00e9vy published with Bruno <img decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-81346 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.iemj.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Raoul-Journo-288x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"260\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.iemj.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Raoul-Journo-288x300.jpg 288w, https:\/\/www.iemj.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Raoul-Journo.jpg 336w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/>Barre, at M\u00e9lodie Distribution, several CDs by Lili Boniche, Blond-Blond, Reinette l&#8217;Oranaise, Line Monty, Luc Cherki, Ren\u00e9 Perez&#8230; in the collection &#8220;Tr\u00e9sors de la chanson jud\u00e9o-arabe&#8221;.
