Sus padres eran m\u00fasicos aficionados, y su madre conoc\u00eda la tradici\u00f3n de las canciones jud\u00edas provenzales. Desde los siete a\u00f1os, Milhaud aprendi\u00f3 a tocar el viol\u00edn y a componer. En 1909 ingres\u00f3 en el Conservatorio de Par\u00eds, donde estudi\u00f3 armon\u00eda con Gustave Leroux, contrapunto con Andr\u00e9 G\u00e9dalge, composici\u00f3n con el organista Charles-Marie Widor y orquestaci\u00f3n con Paul Dukas. All\u00ed descubre el folclore sudamericano y los ritmos ex\u00f3ticos que se expresar\u00e1n en sus obras emblem\u00e1ticas, como <em>Saudades do Brazil<\/em> (1920-1921) y <em>Le b\u0153uf sur le toit<\/em> (1919). De vuelta a Par\u00eds, participa en la breve aventura del \u00abGroupe des Six\u00bb (Francis Poulenc, Arthur Honegger, Germaine Tailleferre, Louis Durey, Georges Auric y Darius Milhaud) creado en torno a Jean Cocteau, principalmente como reacci\u00f3n al impresionismo y al wagnerismo.<\/p>\n<p>En 1923, durante una estancia en Estados Unidos, descubri\u00f3 el jazz, cuyos ritmos utiliz\u00f3 en la composici\u00f3n de su ballet <em>La Cr\u00e9ation du monde<\/em> (1923).<\/p>\n<p>Su producci\u00f3n sigui\u00f3 siendo abundante hasta el estallido de la Segunda Guerra Mundial, cuando se vio obligado a huir de la Francia ocupada, tras ser incluido en dos listas de proscritos: por jud\u00edo y por compositor de arte degenerado. En 1940 se march\u00f3 a Estados Unidos, donde el director de orquesta Pierre Monteux le ayud\u00f3 a obtener un empleo como profesor de composici\u00f3n en el Mills College de Oakland (California). Entre los alumnos de Milhaud se encontraban el pianista de jazz Dave Brubeck, el compositor de variedades Burt Bacharach y los fundadores del minimalismo estadounidense Steve Reich y Philip Glass.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-112687 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.iemj.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Couv-Service-sacre-dirige-par-Milhaud-D33-30_7_VIG-289x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"194\" height=\"201\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.iemj.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Couv-Service-sacre-dirige-par-Milhaud-D33-30_7_VIG-289x300.jpg 289w, https:\/\/www.iemj.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Couv-Service-sacre-dirige-par-Milhaud-D33-30_7_VIG-768x798.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.iemj.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Couv-Service-sacre-dirige-par-Milhaud-D33-30_7_VIG-600x623.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.iemj.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Couv-Service-sacre-dirige-par-Milhaud-D33-30_7_VIG.jpg 770w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 194px) 100vw, 194px\" \/>En 1947 regresa a Francia y se le ofrece un cargo de profesor de composici\u00f3n en el Conservatorio de Par\u00eds. A partir de entonces, altern\u00f3 sus actividades musicales entre Par\u00eds y Estados Unidos. Su carrera se vio coronada en 1971 con un nombramiento en la Acad\u00e9mie des Beaux-Arts. Muri\u00f3 en Ginebra el 22 de junio de 1974, a la edad de 81 a\u00f1os.<\/p>\n<p>Autor de una obra prol\u00edfica (\u00a1443 n\u00fameros de opus!), Darius Milhaud abarc\u00f3 todos los g\u00e9neros: \u00f3pera, m\u00fasica de c\u00e1mara, m\u00fasica sinf\u00f3nica, conciertos, ballets y m\u00fasica vocal. Su lenguaje musical est\u00e1 marcado por la politonalidad y la polirritmia. Entre ellas figuran: <em>Po\u00e8mes juifs<\/em> (1916), la \u00f3pera\u00a0<em>Esther de Carpentras<\/em> (1925-1927), <em>Chants populaires h\u00e9bra\u00efques<\/em> (1925), <em>Pri\u00e8res journali\u00e8res \u00e0 l&#8217;usage des Juifs du Comtat Venaissin<\/em>\u00a0(1927), <em>Liturgie comtadine<\/em> (1933), <em>Cantate nuptiale<\/em> (1937), <em>Couronne de gloire<\/em> (1940), <em>Ca\u00efn et Abel<\/em> (1944), <em>Borechou-Schema Israel<\/em> (1944), <em>Kaddish<\/em>\u00a0(1945), <em>Service sacr\u00e9 pour le samedi matin<\/em> (1947), <em>Lekha dodi<\/em> (1948), <em>Cantate des Proverbes<\/em> (1951), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iemj.org\/es\/le-candelabre-a-sept-branches-1951-de-darius-milhaud\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Le Cand\u00e9labre \u00e0 sept branches<\/em><\/a> (1951), el oratorio <em>David <\/em>compuesto en 1952-1953 para el tercer milenio de Jerusal\u00e9n en 1954, <em>Le Dibbouk<\/em> (1963), <em>Chants h\u00e9bra\u00efques suivant le rite des Communaut\u00e9s Isra\u00eblites de l\u2019ancien Comtat Venaissin<\/em> (1973) y finalmente una de sus \u00faltimas obras, la cantata <em>Ani Maamin<\/em> (1972) sobre un texto de Elie Wiesel, que relata los horrores cometidos en Auschwitz. Treblinka, Maidanek&#8230; lugares donde perecieron m\u00e1s de veinte primos del compositor.<\/p>\n<p>Algunas de las obras jud\u00edas de Darius Milhaud se inspiran en temas lit\u00fargicos de su Comtat Venaissin natal. Es el caso, en particular, de su<em> Etude sur des th\u00e8mes liturgiques du Comtat Venaissin<\/em> que incluye la melod\u00eda tradicional de la oraci\u00f3n L\u00e9\u2019ha dodi indicada en la p. 124 de la colecci\u00f3n <em>Chants h\u00e9bra\u00efques suivant le rite des Communaut\u00e9s Isra\u00eblites de l\u2019ancien Comtat Venaissin<\/em> de Jules Salomon y Mardoch\u00e9e Cr\u00e9mieu (1885).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ex audio 1 : L\u00e9\u2019ha dodi &#8211;
