En aquella \u00e9poca, Estados Unidos se presentaba como un aut\u00e9ntico Eldorado, una tierra prometida de ensue\u00f1o en la que todo parec\u00eda posible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Entre estos exiliados se encuentran compositores de renombre, como los austriacos Max Steiner y Erich Wolfgang Korngold, los alemanes Franz Waxman y Andr\u00e9 Previn, el h\u00fangaro Mikl\u00f3s R\u00f3zsa, el polaco Bronis\u0142aw Kaper, el ruso Irving Berlin y el ucraniano Dimitri Tiomkin. Algunos de ellos vivieron este desarraigo en circunstancias a veces dram\u00e1ticas. Waxman, agredido violentamente en plena calle por las SA en 1934, decidi\u00f3 huir de Berl\u00edn al d\u00eda siguiente. Previn, siendo a\u00fan un ni\u00f1o, abandon\u00f3 Alemania en 1938, unas semanas antes de la <em>Noche de los Cristales<\/em> Rotos, gracias a la complacencia de un oficial nazi al que su padre, abogado, hab\u00eda defendido en el pasado. Tambi\u00e9n en 1938, en el momento del Anschluss, Korngold, cuya carrera ya era floreciente, se encontraba en Estados Unidos, donde hab\u00eda seguido a Max Reinhardt para un proyecto cinematogr\u00e1fico, <em>El sue\u00f1o de una noche de verano<\/em>, un contrato con Warner Bros que le salvar\u00eda la vida.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Los v\u00ednculos que algunos compositores establecen con amigos, directores o productores \u2014a veces ya afincados all\u00ed\u2014 sirven de puente entre la Vieja Europa y el Nuevo Mundo: Tal es el caso de Dimitri Tiomkin, guiado por los consejos de Fi\u00f3dor Shalyapin y George Gershwin; Mikl\u00f3s R\u00f3zsa, contratado por Alexander Korda para <em>El ladr\u00f3n de Bagdad<\/em> y posteriormente <em>El libro de la selva<\/em>; o incluso Franz Waxman, animado por Erich Pommer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hollywood se impone entonces como el lugar de moda para cualquier compositor que aspire a dar a conocer su m\u00fasica. En una \u00e9poca en la que las grandes productoras dan forma a la industria del sue\u00f1o y el entretenimiento, el cine se convierte en una puerta de entrada al mundo art\u00edstico. La llegada del cine sonoro, marcada por <em>El cantante de jazz<\/em> (1927), inaugura esta Edad de Oro que se prolongar\u00e1 durante tres d\u00e9cadas. Y los compositores jud\u00edos exiliados, herederos de la tradici\u00f3n Wagner-Mahler-Strauss, participar\u00e1n ampliamente en ella aportando a Hollywood su saber hacer procedente de la m\u00fasica culta. Korngold y Steiner, ambos ni\u00f1os prodigio y genios polifac\u00e9ticos, son ejemplos brillantes de ello. Consagrados por el propio Mahler, llevan este legado con garbo. Steiner, con su caracter\u00edstico humor, recordaba: \u00abMahler predijo que me convertir\u00eda en uno de los m\u00e1s grandes compositores de todos los tiempos; \u00a1no sab\u00eda que acabar\u00eda en Warner Bros!\u00bb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Estos dos vieneses, junto a Waxman, son los dignos herederos del estilo de sus predecesores, al tiempo que se emancipan de esas figuras tutelares, a veces demasiado dominantes: dan as\u00ed origen al sinfonismo hollywoodiense, denominaci\u00f3n que a\u00fana el posromanticismo germ\u00e1nico y la mezcla cultural de una Am\u00e9rica plural.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">En su deseo de integrarse en la cultura estadounidense, estos compositores intentan unificar su doble identidad, europea y estadounidense, y casi todos recurrir\u00e1n a lo que constituye la riqueza de esta \u00faltima: el jazz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:8px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"708\" height=\"646\" src=\"https:\/\/www.iemj.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Les-compositeurs.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-133291\" style=\"width:652px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.iemj.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Les-compositeurs.jpg 708w, https:\/\/www.iemj.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Les-compositeurs-300x274.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.iemj.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Les-compositeurs-600x547.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 708px) 100vw, 708px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div style=\"height:13px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Es este sincretismo musical, este entrelazamiento de aportaciones estil\u00edsticas, lo que conforma el sonido de la Edad de Oro, trascendiendo todos los g\u00e9neros cinematogr\u00e1ficos: pel\u00edculas de aventuras (El pr\u00edncipe y el mendigo, El libro de la selva), epopeyas grandiosas (<em>Ben Hur<\/em>, <em>Tar\u00e1s Bulba<\/em>), frescos novelescos (<em>Lo que el viento se llev\u00f3<\/em>, <em>Los hermanos Karam\u00e1zov<\/em>), musicales (<em>The Jazz Singer<\/em>,<em> Annie, la reina del circo<\/em>), pel\u00edculas negras (<em>El crimen era casi perfecto<\/em>,<em> Un lugar al sol<\/em>)\u2026. Tantas est\u00e9ticas que exigen una inspiraci\u00f3n en constante evoluci\u00f3n y demuestran el alcance de estos talentos extraordinarios.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Waxman parece ser el paradigma de esta escritura h\u00edbrida y audaz, al igual que Steiner. Tiomkin, que se autodenominaba con humor \u00abun ruso de Hollywood\u00bb, combina el lirismo eslavo con el folclore estadounidense en el western. Berlin, por su parte, recurre a acentos yiddish, mientras que R\u00f3zsa incorpora expresiones t\u00edpicas h\u00fangaras. Por \u00faltimo, Previn, el m\u00e1s asimilado de todos, destaca como uno de los mayores pianistas de jazz del estilo West Coast, un aut\u00e9ntico hombre-orquesta que marc\u00f3 el apogeo del esplendor hollywoodiense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Todos ellos han sido aclamados y galardonados con m\u00faltiples premios \u00d3scar. Situada en la encrucijada entre el \u00abmundo de ayer\u00bb y la modernidad de una Am\u00e9rica en plena transformaci\u00f3n, su m\u00fasica seguir\u00e1 siendo para ellos un pasaporte universal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">La m\u00fasica cinematogr\u00e1fica que vendr\u00eda despu\u00e9s, impulsada por figuras como Bernard Herrmann, Elmer Bernstein, Jerry Goldsmith y, por supuesto, John Williams, es la heredera directa de esos pioneros, que en tres d\u00e9cadas (de los a\u00f1os 30 a los 50) grabaron sus nombres con letras de oro. De ese exilio inexorable supieron sacar fuerza; de su juda\u00edsmo, un sustrato, ya no abocado a la aniquilaci\u00f3n, como en Europa, sino orientado hacia un impulso vital y creador en el pa\u00eds
