Esta costumbre se basa en los <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Thirteen_Attributes_of_Mercy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trece atributos de la misericordia<\/a> que, seg\u00fan la tradici\u00f3n, fueron transmitidos por Dios a Mois\u00e9s. Estos trece atributos son: \u201c\u00a1Se\u00f1or! \u00a1Se\u00f1or! Misericordioso y misericordioso, lento para la ira, lleno de benevolencia y justicia; conserva su favor en la mil\u00e9sima generaci\u00f3n; apoya el crimen, la rebeli\u00f3n, la culpa, pero no los absuelve: persigue las fechor\u00edas de los padres sobre los hijos, los nietos, hasta la tercera y cuarta prole\u00bb(<em>\u00c9xodo<\/em> 34, 6-7).<\/p>\n<p>A lo largo de los siglos se han compuesto un gran n\u00famero de poemas religiosos (<em>piyut\u00edm<\/em>) para ilustrar la enunciaci\u00f3n de estos trece atributos: son estos poemas, centrados en la idea del perd\u00f3n, los que se llaman <em>selijot<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Originalmente, las <em>selijot<\/em> se le\u00edan durante el servicio y el ayuno de Yom Kipur. Luego, esta costumbre se extendi\u00f3 a 10 d\u00edas (<em>yamim nora\u00edm<\/em>) entre Rosh Hashan\u00e1 y Kipur. Las comunidades sefard\u00edes las leen al amanecer antes de las oraciones matutinas durante cuarenta d\u00edas, a partir del 1 de Elul. En Israel, la costumbre es recitarlos a medianoche. Despu\u00e9s de la destrucci\u00f3n del Segundo Templo en Jerusal\u00e9n, las <em>selijot<\/em> se leyeron en circunstancias excepcionales, especialmente en momentos en que la lluvia necesaria para la agricultura era escasa. Tambi\u00e9n se recitan durante ciertos ayunos.<\/p>\n<p>Los diferentes ritos tienen sus propios textos y costumbres. Y el estilo de <em>selijot<\/em> ha evolucionado con el tiempo. La aparici\u00f3n de estrofas y rimas est\u00e1 as\u00ed ligada a los c\u00e1nones est\u00e9ticos bizantinos, sirios y \u00e1rabes, dando lugar al nacimiento de poemas con estrofas de dos versos (las <em>selijot<\/em> se llaman entonces <em>shniyot<\/em>), tres versos (<em>shlishiyot<\/em>) y cuatro versos (<em>shalmoniyot<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p>Algunas <em>selijot<\/em>, como <em>Adon haselijot, Atanu lehalot, Ben adam, El erej apayim, El melej yoshev<\/em>, se han extendido a muchas comunidades. Los autores de estos poemas han permanecido en gran parte en el anonimato, pero los nombres de algunos nos han llegado, como el famoso Mois\u00e9s Ibn Ezra (1055-despu\u00e9s de 1135) que adquiri\u00f3 el sobrenombre de <em>ha-Sallah<\/em> (\u00abel autor de <em>selijot<\/em>\u00ab).
