Su padre, un barbero, tocaba el viol\u00edn en las fiestas y probablemente dio sus primeras lecciones de viol\u00edn a Isaac y su hermano Maurice. Formaron un cuarteto de cuerda en Estrasburgo con Simon y Salomon L\u00e9vy y se fueron a Par\u00eds donde Strauss ingres\u00f3 al Conservatorio en la clase del gran violinista Pierre Baillot el 31 de enero de 1828. Lo dej\u00f3 un a\u00f1o y medio despu\u00e9s, interrumpiendo sus estudios para ganarse el sustento<\/p>\n<p>De hecho, obtuvo un lugar como violinista en el Teatro Italiano, donde Rossini segu\u00eda dominando el repertorio. Strauss permaneci\u00f3 cerca de Rossini, a quien dedic\u00f3 uno de sus valses, y asisti\u00f3 a su funeral. En 1981, Claude L\u00e9vi-Strauss, su bisnieto, escribi\u00f3:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00abA mi abuela le gustaba decir que, a la edad de siete a\u00f1os creo [ca. 1849], besada en la frente por Rossini, hab\u00eda jurado no lavarse nunca la cara para mantener intacta la huella de los labios divinos\u00bb.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" aligncenter size-full wp-image-21905\" src=\"https:\/\/www.iemj.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/strauss_2_500px.jpg\" alt=\"strauss_2_500px.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"395\" align=\"middle\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.iemj.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/strauss_2_500px.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.iemj.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/strauss_2_500px-300x237.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Sin embargo, esta actividad para los italianos no fue suficiente para apoyar a un m\u00fasico; se vio obligado a tocar para personas adineradas y en bailes p\u00fablicos. En verano, se encontraba en las ciudades balneario de Plombi\u00e8res (en los Vosgos) y luego Aix-les-Bains (en Saboya).<\/p>\n<p>Al mismo tiempo, Strauss dirige orquestas de sal\u00f3n; su nombre apareci\u00f3 en la prensa musical en enero de 1842, cuando dirigi\u00f3 los bailes de m\u00e1scaras en la Op\u00e9ra-Comique. Fue a finales del mismo mes cuando Berlioz dedic\u00f3 la famosa cr\u00f3nica del <em>Journal des debates<\/em> (incluida en las <em>M\u00e9moires<\/em>), que demuestra que ya hab\u00eda adquirido una s\u00f3lida reputaci\u00f3n, y que el tener el mismo apellido que los Strauss de Viena le planteaba problemas.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" aligncenter size-full wp-image-21907\" src=\"https:\/\/www.iemj.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/strauss_3_500px.jpg\" alt=\"strauss_3_500px.jpg\" width=\"435\" height=\"329\" align=\"middle\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.iemj.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/strauss_3_500px.jpg 435w, https:\/\/www.iemj.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/strauss_3_500px-300x227.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 435px) 100vw, 435px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>En el verano de 1842, gracias a las numerosas conexiones que estableci\u00f3 al animar los bailes de Aix-les-Bains, su fama traspas\u00f3 los l\u00edmites de Francia: estuvo notablemente a cargo de la m\u00fasica en la boda del duque de Saboya, el futuro Victor-Emmanuel II (1820-78), rey de Italia. Para la ocasi\u00f3n, reclut\u00f3 una orquesta de 115 m\u00fasicos y actu\u00f3 frente a la corte de G\u00e9nova.<\/p>\n<p>Su reputaci\u00f3n estaba ya establecida. Adem\u00e1s, el ministro de Comercio de Louis-Philippe, que buscaba desarrollar la ciudad balneario de Vichy, le ofreci\u00f3 en 1843 convertirse en explotador de los salones del establecimiento termal de Vichy. Strauss tiene el monopolio del ocio, a cambio de lo cual acepta que se realicen ampliaciones. Fue \u00e9se el origen del auge de Vichy (de 1852 a 1869 el n\u00famero de ba\u00f1istas pas\u00f3 de 5.000 a 25.000), donde mand\u00f3 construir una villa en 1858 que acogi\u00f3 a Napole\u00f3n III durante sus curaciones en 1861 y 1862 y que a\u00fan existe bajo el nombre de Villa Strauss.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" aligncenter size-full wp-image-21909\" src=\"https:\/\/www.iemj.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/villa_strauss_500px.jpg\" alt=\"villa_strauss_500px.jpg\" width=\"425\" height=\"314\" align=\"middle\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.iemj.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/villa_strauss_500px.jpg 425w, https:\/\/www.iemj.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/villa_strauss_500px-300x222.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 425px) 100vw, 425px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Una vez en Vichy, Strauss vio c\u00f3mo sus \u00e9xitos se suced\u00edan: en 1847 puso la m\u00fasica para el matrimonio doble en la corte de Madrid (Isabel II de Espa\u00f1a se cas\u00f3 con su primo y su hermana, do\u00f1a Luisa, con el duque de Montpensier, el hijo menor del rey de los franceses) y compuso el vals <em>El matrimonio doble<\/em>, as\u00ed como un vals para cada una de las novias (<em>Luisa Wals<\/em>, para la Duquesa de Montpensier e Infanta de Espa\u00f1a, y <em>El Besamanos<\/em> para la reina Isabel II. Recibi\u00f3 como agradecimiento un anillo con un rub\u00ed adornado con diamantes que Henriette Nizan dijo haber arrojado al fuego por error, acorralada por los alemanes durante la Ocupaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p>Unos meses despu\u00e9s de este doble matrimonio, donde demostr\u00f3 su val\u00eda ante Luis Felipe y conoci\u00f3 a Eugenia de Montijo, la futura emperatriz, sucedi\u00f3 a Jean-Baptiste Tolbecque al frente de los bailes de la corte de Luis Felipe y el baile del Jard\u00edn de Invierno en los Campos El\u00edseos.<\/p>\n<p>Su reputaci\u00f3n estaba tan asentada que, dos meses despu\u00e9s, los revolucionarios de 1848 lo llamaron para que organizara la m\u00fasica para la fiesta republicana de Versalles; bajo el Segundo Imperio, Strauss subi\u00f3 el \u00faltimo escal\u00f3n de su ascenso al obtener en 1854 el privilegio de los bailes de la \u00d3pera reemplazando a Philippe Musard, cargo que mantendr\u00eda hasta 1872.
