Tambi\u00e9n hay otras referencias b\u00edblicas: en el primer verso, la expresi\u00f3n \u00abla ciudad que se sienta solitaria\u00bb procede del Libro de las Lamentaciones 1:1, y el tercer verso del Salmo 137:5 \u00ab<em>Si te olvido Jerusal\u00e9n<\/em>\u00ab.<\/p>\n<p>Las circunstancias que condujeron a la composici\u00f3n de esta canci\u00f3n son altamente simb\u00f3licas. En 1967, el alcalde de Jerusal\u00e9n, Teddy Kolek, encarg\u00f3 una canci\u00f3n sobre Jerusal\u00e9n para el Festival de la Canci\u00f3n que se celebrar\u00eda la noche del D\u00eda de la Independencia, el 15 de mayo de 1967. La tarea recay\u00f3 en Naomi Shemer, una cantautora. La canci\u00f3n describe Jerusal\u00e9n antes de la Guerra de los Seis D\u00edas, cuando la ciudad a\u00fan estaba dividida por un muro que separaba el Reino de Jordania del Estado de Israel.
