Nel 1841, all&#8217;et\u00e0 di 14 anni, entr\u00f2 al Conservatorio per studiare pianoforte, armonia (classe di F\u00e9lix Le Couppey) e composizione (classe di Michel Carafa). Nel 1847 vinse il primo premio di armonia del Conservatorio e nel 1849 il secondo Gran Premio di Roma, con la sua cantata <em>Antonio<\/em><span style=\"color: initial;\"><span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" onclick=\"footnote_moveToReference_62014_1('footnote_plugin_reference_62014_1_1');\" onkeypress=\"footnote_moveToReference_62014_1('footnote_plugin_reference_62014_1_1');\" ><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_62014_1_1\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">[1]<\/sup><\/a><span id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_62014_1_1\" class=\"footnote_tooltip\">Nel 1849 non ci fu assegnazione del Primo Premio.<\/span><\/span><script type=\"text\/javascript\"> jQuery('#footnote_plugin_tooltip_62014_1_1').tooltip({ tip: '#footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_62014_1_1', tipClass: 'footnote_tooltip', effect: 'fade', predelay: 0, fadeInSpeed: 200, delay: 400, fadeOutSpeed: 200, position: 'top center', relative: true, offset: [-7, 0], });<\/script><\/span><span style=\"font-size: revert; color: initial;\">. Parallelamente ad un incarico di direttore musicale della Guardia Imperiale (per la quale compone numerose marce e brani per bande militari), intraprese la carriera di insegnante al Conservatorio di Parigi, dal 1847 al 1870. Vi effettua dei corsi di solfeggio, in un primo tempo, e lezioni di composizione, dal 1859, in un secondo tempo.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Nel 1851, su consiglio di Fromental Hal\u00e9vy, Emile Jonas offr\u00ec i suoi servizi al Concistoro di Parigi, come organista della sinagoga principale, rue Notre-Dame de Nazareth, che originariamente aveva una sala di preghiera ashkenazita ed un&#8217;altra sefardita. Dal 1854, Jonas ha lavorato come organista e maestro di coro della sinagoga di rito portoghese al 23 di rue Lamartine. Nel 1854 pubblic\u00f2 una <em>Raccolta di canti ebraici antichi e moderni eseguiti al Tempio di rit [sic] portoghese<\/em> <em>di Parigi<\/em>, comprendente 39 brani liturgici per solisti, cori, organo e arpa, di cui 24 di sua composizione. Una versione ampliata apparve nel 1886 con il titolo di <em>Canti ebraici eseguiti nei templi concistoriali e nel Tempio di rito portoghese di Parigi<\/em>, accompagnata da raccomandazioni per l&#8217;interpretazione e di esercizi.<\/p>\n<p>Il suo Salmo 130, per baritono e coro, cos\u00ec come la preghiera <em>Vayehi binsoa<\/em> che accompagna l&#8217;Estrazione dei rotoli della Tor\u00e0, sono interpretati all\u2019 inaugurazione del Tempio della rue de la Victoire, il 9 settembre 1874. Nello stesso anno, Emile Jonas pubblica un volume di 21 composizioni di vari autori, utilizzate nelle cerimonie nuziali di questa sinagoga. Nel 1879 pubblica un altro volume di musica per lo Shabbat.<\/p>\n<p>Parallelamente alla sua carriera liturgica, Emile Jonas \u00e8 un prolifico\u00a0\u00a0 compositore, autore di una ventina di opere-buffe, alcune delle quali conobbero un brillante successo. Condivide il cartellone nei teatri parigini (poi in Francia e in Europa) con i pi\u00f9 famosi compositori francesi della seconda met\u00e0 del XIX secolo, come Delibes, Messager, Offenbach\u2026 Quest&#8217;ultimo, amico e mentore di Jonas, lo presenta al migliori librettisti dell&#8217;epoca, e produce sei delle sue opere, le opere-buffe in un atto <em>La Parade<\/em> (1856), <em>Le Roi boit<\/em> (1857), <em>Les Petits Prodiges<\/em> (1857), per le quali Offenbach contribuisce con almeno due numeri, <em>Job et son chien <\/em>(1863), <em>Le manoir des Lar\u00e9nardi\u00e8re<\/em> (1864), <em>Avant la noce<\/em> (1865) e <em>D\u00e9sir\u00e9, sire de Champigny<\/em> (1869).<\/p>\n<p>Nel 1867 Emile Jonas fa parte del comitato responsabile dell&#8217;organizzazione delle sfilate militari per l&#8217;Esposizione Universale inaugurata da Napoleone III e dall&#8217;imperatrice Eugenia. \u00c8 unanimamente salutato e riconosciuto non solo per i suoi contributi artistici, ma anche per la sua dedizione ed il suo senso dell&#8217;organizzazione. Fa ugualmente parte di numerosi consigli di amministrazione di societ\u00e0 di autori e compositori. Frequenta personalit\u00e0 come Bizet, Gounod, Labiche, Sardou e Alexandre Dumas figlio.<\/p>\n<p>E\u2019 nominato Cavaliere e poi Ufficiale della Legione d&#8217;Onore.<\/p>\n<p>Emile Jonas muore a Saint-Germain-en-Laye il 21 maggio 1905. Il suo corpo riposa nel cimitero di Montparnasse.
