E\u2019 il terzo di quattro figli di Emma Ackermann e Albert Weill, cantore della sinagoga di Dessau (dal 1899 al 1919) e compositore, principalmente di musica liturgica.<\/p>\n<p>I suoi primi lavori di composizione risalgono al 1913. Dal 1915 al 1918, prende lezioni di pianoforte, armonia, composizione ed orchestrazione da Albert Bing, assistente direttore del teatro di corte di Dessau. Nel 1918 inizia a studiare musica alla Hochschule di Berlino. Nel dicembre 1920, Kurt Weill \u00e8 ammesso alla classe del compositore e pianista Busoni all&#8217;Accademia delle Arti di Berlino. Diventa rapidamente uno dei suoi studenti pi\u00f9 brillanti e radicali.<\/p>\n<p>E\u2019 basandosi sulla rivalutazione del ruolo della musica nel teatro, sulla nozione di Spiel (gioco) che Kurt Weill abborda i suoi progetti operistici nel 1925. La sua prima collaborazione con Bertolt Brecht nel 1927 (<em>L&#8217;Op\u00e9ra de quat&#8217;sous<\/em> ) \u00e8 determinante per il suo lavoro futuro. Impegnato in un ideale comunista, questo incontro cambia il suo modo di scrivere. Si proclama il &#8220;Verdi dei poveri&#8221; e orienta il suo stile espressionista d&#8217;avanguardia verso il realismo. Crea allora una nuova forma di spettacolo popolare: a met\u00e0 tra teatro e opera, la sua musica prende in prestito dal Jazz e dal cabaret.<\/p>\n<p>Questo periodo \u00e8 fondamentale per il compositore: collabora con il soprano austriaco Lotte Lenya, che diventa rapidamente la sua musa\u00a0 e la sua interprete preferita. Ormai inseparabili, il duo si sposa ed entra nella leggenda.<\/p>\n<p>Nel 1933, le origini ebraiche di Kurt Weill lo costringono a fuggire in Francia. Il 26 novembre 1933, durante un concerto alla Salle Pleyel, dove sono eseguiti degli estratti da <em>Der Silbersee<\/em>, il compositore Florent Schmitt, sostenuto da una parte del pubblico, grida &#8220;Viva Hitler!&#8221;. I giornali parigini attaccano Kurt Weill, in particolare Lucien Rebatet che denuncia sul quotidiano &#8220;Action fran\u00e7aise&#8221; il &#8220;virus giudeo-tedesco&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Nel settembre 1935 parte per gli Stati Uniti. Un&#8217;opera importante dei primi tempi dell&#8217;esilio \u00e8 <em>Der Weg des Verheissung \/ The Eternal Road<\/em>, un&#8217;opera biblica, che presenta la storia del popolo ebraico. \u00c8 un misto di teatro, liturgia ed opera. Kurt Weill conosce poi il successo a Broadway, in particolare con <em>Lady in the Dark<\/em> e <em>One Touch of Venus<\/em>. Dall&#8217;ottobre 1941 partecipa allo sforzo bellico aderendo all&#8217;organizzazione <em>Fight For Freedom<\/em>; presta servizio civile di osservazione aerea nel 1942. Produce diversi lavori legati alla situazione, in particolare <em>We Will Never Die<\/em>, eseguito a New York e Los Angeles e radiotrasmesso.
