Description
Recorded in July 2019 in Paris at the Passy-Annunciation Temple, Sofia Falkovitch‘s second musical album features a range of songs, prayers and psalms by the greatest composers of synagogue music in pre-war Europe and United States (Lewandowski, Naumburg, Alter, Jules Franck etc.).
While Sofia Falkovitch’s voice highlights the Jewish origins and flavor of music, the play of organist Raphael Tambyeff introduces the musicality of Western religious music. Sofia Falkovitch’s rich and profound voice, in the service of the Hebrew text, ideally adapts to the sudden modalities and nuances of Ashkenazi prayers.
It is striking to note that all the prayers interpreted here by Sofia Falkovitch are, of course, originally written for men’s voices, their execution not altering the restitution of the spirit of prayer, but making it even more affirmed while giving him a certain sweetness, very pleasant to listen.
