Klezmer workshops for all ages in London

Klezmer Playday 

29 March, Kings Cross, London, 11am-3.30pm

Enjoy playing and learning more about klezmer at a fun and relaxed day-long mini-fest, open to all instruments. The day will be a smorgasbord of sessions, giving the flavour of KlezMargate, a new seaside klezmer festival that will take place 18-20 October 2024.

Minimum standard: grade 4 or equivalent. No ability to read music or prior klezmer experience is necessary.

Klezmer Youth Workshop 

1 April, London, 11.30am-3.30pm

A workshop in central London for young people (aged 8-18) to learn more about klezmer music. All instruments are welcome.

Suitable for both newcomers to the genre and seasoned players, the day will include:

– Learning klezmer music by ear, including melody, inner parts, rhythm, and bass lines
– Understanding about klezmer modes and dances
– Practising ornamentation
– Arranging material
– Discussing performance skills

Tutors: Ilana Cravitz (violin) and John Macnaughton (clarinet & sax)

Minimum standard: grade 4 or equivalent. No ability to read music or prior klezmer experience is necessary.
