The Darius Milhaud triptych

As part of the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the death of composer Darius Milhaud, a descendant of Jews from Comtat Venaissin, the association “Les amis de la synagogue de Cavaillon” is organizing a 3-part evening event:

  • a round-table discussion with musicologists specializing in Milhaud, including Hervé Roten (IEMJ), Katharina Galor (Brown University) and German musicologist Kai Hinrich Müller, who will discuss the importance of his contribution to musical life in France, Germany and the U.S., where he lived (45 minutes).
  • a World Premiere of the animated short filmEsther de Carpentras“, created especially for the 50th anniversary of Darius Milhaud’s death by American artist Steven Subotnick (15 minutes).
  • a chamber music concert conducted by Michal Friedländer (piano), accompanied by mezzo-soprano Hagar Sharvit and world-renowned clarinettist Karl-Heinz Steffens. (60 minutes)

  • Duo Concertant, Op. 351,for clarinet and piano
  • Poèmes juifs, Op.34, for mezzo-soprano and piano
  • Esther de Carpentras, opening and aria, for mezzo-soprano and piano
  • Suadades do Brazil, for piano Botafogo
  • Scaramouche, for clarinet and piano

The same evening-event will also be performed on July 1, 2024 at the Piano Salon Christophori in Berlin (Germany), on September 22, 2024 at Brown University in Providence (USA) and on September 23 at the Center for Jewish History in New York (USA).
