KLEZMER AND HASSIDIC NIGGUN WORKSHOP – DAVID LEFEBVRE

The CFMJ (now called European Institute of Jewish Music) organized on January 17, 2011, a day of training for music teachers of Paris. This day allowed to present a wide panorama on the history of Jewish music with a conference by Hervé Roten followed by a workshop of vocal and/or instrumental improvisations (Chasidic nigunim, klezmer) animated by David Lefebvre from the band Glik.

Morning (9h-12h)

  • 9 h : Welcoming of the participants and screening of a short film presenting the French Center of Jewish Music
  • 9h30 : Lecture « Discovering Jewish music » by Hervé Roten
  • 11h30 : Questions / exchanges aaround Jewish music

Afternoon (13h30-16h30)

Workshop « East-European Jewish Music (Klezmer and Chasidic songs) »

  • 13h30 : Introduction to klezmer music, instrumental music of the Jews from Eastern Europe (Hervé Roten)
  • 14h30 : Workshop of vocal and/or instrumental practices (Chasidic nigunim, klezmer) (David Lefebvre)
  • 16h30 : End of training
