Tribute to Patrick Berman

Patrick Berman, a volunteer and the treasurer of the European Institute of Jewish Music, passed away this Sunday, November 7, 2021.

Patrick was the soul of the EIJM. Always smiling and telling jokes, he knew how to take time to listen to those who worked with him, volunteers or full-time employees.

When he knocked at the door, in 2006, of what was then called « French Center of Jewish Music », he wanted to learn the clarinet to play klezmer music. He quickly got fond of our work of saving the musical heritage and came almost every day to help us digitize and catalogue musical documents. And when we needed an accountant and a treasurer, he proposed himself voluntarily to this position, solid of his skills and knowledge acquired all along his professional career.

For 15 years, Patrick was the pillar of the EIJM. He was a simple man, friendly and always in a good mood, despite his life that was not always easy.

On behalf of the executive board and the EIJM’s staff, we express to him all our gratitude for his tireless commitment which allowed the development of our institute.

Baruch dayan ha’emet.
