Jewish music

From purely instrumental klezmer music to chassidic and yiddish songs, from Judaeo-Arabic and Judaeo-Spanish songs to synagogue and art music, the spectrum that Jewish music covers is wide and diverse. It is characterized by the experience of the Jewish diaspora, where the ideas met with and confronted each other, but also by different cultures. As such, there is not one single Jewish music, but the term rather embraces different musics, each one of them carrying its own story and being the fruit of a specific cultural environment.

Preserving these musical traditions and making them known to the public so that the musical patrimony of future could flourish constitute the main objective of the European Institute of Jewish Music.
