Concert “Mélodies hébraïques, un rêve vieux de 3000 ans” (“Hebrew melodies, a 3000-year-old dream”)

As part of the Festival of Jewish Cultures

Proposed by the European Institute of Jewish Music, the Archives Nationales and the D’AC, Direction de l’Action culturelle of the FSJU

Beautifully interpreted by Sarah Iancu on cello and David Bismuth on piano, this concert features the most beautiful Hebrew melodies inspired by liturgical, Hasidic, Yiddish and Judeo-Spanish themes: from Ravel’s famous Kaddish to Max Bruch’s Kol nidrei, from Ernest Bloch’s De la vie juive cycle to Darius Milhaud’s Chants populaires hébraïques, via lesser-known but equally beautiful works by Joseph Achron, Léon Algazi, Charles-Valentin Alkan, Fernand Halphen, Simon Laks, Joaquin Nin-Culmell, Dmitri Schostakovitsch, Joachim Stutschewsky and Viktor Ullmann. The program for this concert follows in the footsteps of these composers, who were inspired by Chassidic, Yiddish and Judeo-Spanish melodies in their search for the very soul of Judaism.cdc1_-_vignette.jpg
