Sirba Octet – Yiddish Rhapsody

Sirba Octet, Isabelle Georges and the Pau Orchestra / Pays de Béarn

In 2009, to fulfill an order from the Pau Orchestra / Pays de Béarn, directed by Faycal Karoui, Isabelle Georges and Richard Schmoucler create Yiddish Rhapsody, an invitation to travel in the heart of Yiddish melodies from the folkloric repertoire of the Eastern Europe Jews.

Yiddish Rhapsody is a program of Yiddish music with orchestra. Creative, festive, rich and eclectic, it allows the curious meeting of the Sirba Octet, classical music ensemble, Isabelle Georges, musical singer who sings in Yiddish, and a symphonic orchestra.

From the inspired and profound piece Dona Dona to the song Misirlou revived by Quentin Tarantino in the film Pulp Fiction, from the nostalgic Yingele nit veyn to the “Sirtaki” version of A keshenever, from the energetic solos of the orchestra in Yiddish Charleston and Belz, the melodies of this CD, revisited and arranged for the Sirba Octet, are a great hymn to life.
