Yiddish song in France

Lectures filmed on October 20, 2024 at the MAHJ Auditorium (Paris)

As part of the Colloque Ashkenazi music in France, at concerts or in synagogue, October 20 & 21, 2024

Imported by the American wave, Yiddish song first appeared in France in the 1920s and soon permeated theaters, choirs and recitals.

The first morning of this symposium will be devoted to song in Yiddish theater, the revival of Yiddish song since the 1970s, followed by an evocation of the great Parisian Yiddish choirs and their emulators, and finally a presentation of the rising generation of Yiddish song performing throughout France and Navarre.
