Yossele (Josef) Rosenblatt

A famous voice among the cantors

Born in Bila Tserka in Ukraine, Rosenblatt started his career as a member of the synagogue choir…

At the age of 18, he became cantor and emigrated in 1912 in the United States, where he led services in a Harlem Orthodox community.

Considered as the best cantor of his time, his vocal abilities were appreciated even beyond the Jewish circle.
We can notice a characteristic of his style, the « krekhtz », an emotional singing weep.
