French Judaism Foundation

Established in 1974 and officially recognized for its public utility in 1978, the French Judaism Foundation has maintained the following objectives since its existence:

  • Developing and raising awareness about Jewish culture
  • Highlighting the historical and spiritual patrimony of the French Jewish life dating back centuries
  • Helping a Jewish identity that is diverse yet loyal to its European heritage thrive, an identity that cares about the world and is firmly committed to Israel.

With the creation of a program entitled “Musical heritage of French Jews” directed by the ethnomusicologist Hervé Roten in the 2000s, the French Judaism Foundation developed an operating division in the domain pertaining to Jewish music, which eventually led to the creation of the French Center for Jewish Music in 2006.
