Gérard Kurkdjian

The spiritual traditions developed a rich repertoire of music and sacred chants through continents and centuries: who could have been a better guide than Gérard Kurkdjian, one of the founders of Fes world sacred music Festival, which he was artistic director during 15 years.

From Gregorian or Orthodox chant to Gospel and requiems, from Arab-Andalusian music or Koran psalmody, to Kabbala’s mystic poets, from Pakistan’s Sufis to whirling dervishes and buddhist chants from Tibet, China, Japan and India, this big trip brings us also to contemporary music, jazz and world music.

Of Armenian origin and passionate about Eastern traditions, Gérard Kurkdjian has spent the last twenty-five years as a musician, artistic director and producer. He has been artistic director of numerous world music festivals, including the Yerevan World Music Festival in Armenia and the Fez Festival of World Sacred Music in Morocco, of which he was one of the co-founders and artistic director from its creation in 1994 until 2009.
