Yuval Association

French association for the preservation of Jewish Musical Traditions

Yuval is a French association committed to the preservation of Jewish musical traditions created in 1985 by professors Israel Adler, Frank Alvarez-Pereyre and Simha Arom. Its aim is to collect, preserve, study and spread Jewish musical traditions from France and elsewhere. Yuval is also involved in several international research activities on Jewish music. It has notably participated in the elaboration of an anthology of the liturgical Jewish musical traditions of Ethiopian Jews (in collaboration with the CNRS) and has carried out several missions collecting musical traditions of the Jews from Djerba (a collaboration between Yuval, CNRS and the Jewish Music Research Centre of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem). Under the direction of Israel Adler, Yuval has also taken part in the discovery of some major baroque Jewish music, such as the Ester de Lidarti oratorio.
