Ensemble Salomone Rossi

The Ensemble Salomone Rossi was founded by violinist Lydia Cevidalli in 1991, with the aim of exploring the theme of the Jewish presence, and its contribution, in Western musical culture; the presence and the intertwining are manifested both in the surviving repertoire of Jewish baroque origin, and more generally in the European musical and cultural world of the following centuries.

The group is made up of a variable number of musicians who constantly collaborate with prestigious international ensembles of baroque music (Les Concert des Nations, Accademia Bizantina, Pietà dei Turchini, Ensemble Aurora, Orchestra 1704 and others).

In recent years, the Salomone Rossi Ensemble has performed in several prestigious venues, including the Quirinale Concerts, Alessi Hall at Palazzo Marino in Milan, the National Theater in Belgrade, the Italian Synagogue in Istanbul, Effettobibbia in Bergamo, and tours in the United States, Madrid, Cremona, and France organized by the Italian Consulate.

The ensemble has participated in various radio programs, including Radio3, RadioSole24ore, Radio Vatican, Classic Radio, and others, as well as a BBC production. The ensemble also performed pieces from its synagogue repertoire for the program “Jewish Cultures Along the Via Emilia,” which aired on the Rai5 Storia channel on January 27, 2024.

The group is currently involved in the Benedetto Marcello Project, a recording project of the Psalms set to music by Benedetto Marcello in his famous work Estro poetico-armonico, which includes the eleven Hebrew lntonazioni, the two Greek lnni and the lntonazione Ecclesiastica Gregoriana.
