A radio program by the European Institute of Jewish Music hosted by Hervé Roten

MUSIQUES JUIVES D’HIER ET D’AUJOURD’HUI – November 21, 2017, JUDAÏQUES FM (94.8), 21H05. Radio program in French

Hervé Roten receives the singer Isabelle Georges who just recorded with the pianist Jeff Cohen at Editions La Musica, a beautiful CD called Vienne – Paris – Hollywood.

This disc is mainly dedicated to Austrian and German Jewish composers Kurt Weill, Norbert Glanzberg, Friedrich Hollaender and Erich Wolfgang Korngold, forced to get refuge in Paris and Hollywood after the growth of Nazism. During this forced exile, their will to live and musical creativity allowed them to write several stage music that had great success, and therefore contributing to the unprecedented growth of this musical genre.
Korngold used to say : « Torn between opera and film music, sometimes I played to be serious, sometimes I wrote seriously songs » Following this spirit, Jeff Cohen and Isabelle Georges created with a lot of attention this 18 track album, going from classical music to music from movie theaters, passing by cabaret.

The trilingual booklet (French – English – German) is remarkably written by the conductor and composer Amaury du Closel, author in particular of the book Les Voix étouffées du IIIe Reich. Entartete Musik (Actes-Sud, Arles, 2005) and director of Forum Voix étouffées.
