Michel Heymann and the Ashkenazi liturgy of the Rhine Valley

LIFE COURSES, AN EIJM FILM PRODUCTION

Born in Strasbourg on April 25, 1952, Michel Heymann has devoted his life to the Ashkenazi synagogue liturgy practiced for centuries by Jewish communities in the Rhine Valley, from Basel to Amsterdam, via Mulhouse, Colmar, Strasbourg, Nancy, Metz and Luxembourg.

In this video, shot in Luxembourg City on December 7, 2022, he tells Hervé Roten about his childhood memories, his training and career as a cantor in Haguenau, Mulhouse and Luxembourg, and his hopes and fears for the future of this Ashkenazi tradition.
