The revival of klezmer music – Hervé Roten and Denis Cuniot

As part of the Days of Yiddish Culture 2010, Hervé Roten, ethnomusicologist and director of the European Institute of Jewish Music and Denis Cuniot, klezmer pianist, present to us a general view on the revival of klezmer music.

This conference organized by the Centre Communautaire de Paris, on March 17, 2010 invites us to a journey on the routes of klezmer music.

Illustrated with many audio and video examples, this journey takes us to the origins of this music, revealing the context in which it was created.
The practice of music, between fidelity of the traditional way and renewal will be a subject of discussion.
The personal view of Denis Cuniot, one of the first French craftsmen of the klezmer revival, will help us understand how today’s musicians situate themselves with this heritage. With his experience, he will share his questions and doubts concerning his work of renewal of this repertoire.
