Sunday, September 24, 2023 – Part 1/2

Songs and prayers for Kippur, Soukkot and Simchat Torah – Weaving in action

This first part is dedicated to the feast of Kippur, the Day of Atonement, one of the most important feasts in the Hebrew calendar. A day of fasting and prayer, it’s an invitation for everyone to meditate on life, its choices, its actions, the quality of its relationships with others and with God, an invitation to change its trajectory or to improve it if necessary.

Celebrated the evening before, like all the feast days in the Hebrew calendar, this feast begins with the Kol Nidre prayer, a particularly solemn prayer whose origin remains obscure and has given rise to many interpretations.

This program focuses on the history of this melody, its meaning, its variations, its transmission, its re-creation and its constant evolution.

Sunday, October 1, 2023 – Part 2/2

Songs and prayers for Kippur, Soukkot and Simchat Torah – In the age of nations

Broadcast on October 1, the second part of the program features a discussion around Sukkot and Simhat Torah music.

The feast of Yom Kippur is followed in the Jewish liturgical calendar by the seven-day feast of Sukkot, or Festival of Booths, commemorating both the precarious life in the desert for forty years after leaving Egypt, and the autumn harvest.

A time of celebration and joy, marked in Temple times by the installation of a circus where everyone came to show off their skills, juggling, dancing, balancing, for example, to the sound of a lively, twirling orchestra. It was also a time of hope for the coming year, marked by the prayer for rain at the end of the seven days, coupled with a time of study and reading in a festival called “Simchat Torah“, the joy of the Torah, during which the reading of the Torah scroll is resumed, with its famous verse “Berechit bara elohim“, which is translated: “In the beginning God created Heaven and Earth”.

A festival rich in events and varied music.
